Convention Research (Death Wish)

For the first movie that our group researches, we choose a thriller called "Death Wish". Here are some conventions that we found in the blog that we liked, did not like, and overall conventions that we should use in our film.

Conventions that we liked: There was a lot of conventions used in this film that our group likes. To start, a lot of the angles used have underlining purposes. For example, the antagonist in this film are usually represented with low angles that shows them having power over another subject. To give the film a more modern feel, the costumes worn during the duration was more modern, causal clothing which is something that my group actually liked. Props were also fairly basic, hand guns were used through rising actions because they always give the audience a sense of fear, of suspense, which we liked. The natural lighting also gave the film a natural feel, it made the story more real which we also liked. Finally, all of the sound effects used in the film was spot on, knowing that most of the sound effects were made outside of the film, it nevertheless sounded like the actual prop used.

Conventions that we did not like: As most of the stuff in the film we liked, there still were some areas that we did not like. To start, since the back round of the subject was a surgeon, I would've liked to see flashbacks (editing convention) to show his past occupation relating to the present, some spots of the editing we did not like.

Conventions that we would use: In our film, we will definitely use low angles to show who has power. We also will use and be wise with the costumes, more of a modern style and try to stay away from sports clothing. Finally, the last thing we saw in this film that we would use is natural lighting, to give a less synthetic look to the film. These are some conventions that we found interesting in the film, that we would use.
